Face movement if anti-people deals signed with India: Fakhrul

Posted on September 4th, 2011 by The News of Politics in Parties

Opposition BNP has threatened to wage movement if the government signs agreements with India against national interests, reports UNB.

According to officials in Dhaka and New Delhi a number of agreements and protocols will be signed during Indian Prime Minister (PM) Manmohan Singh’s visit to Bangladesh on September 6-7.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir talking to reporters at the party’s central office Saturday said they welcome the visit of the Indian PM.

He expressed the hope that the existing problems between Bangladesh and India would be resolved properly through this visit.

However, Fakhrul warned that movement would be launched if any deal with India goes against the interests of Bangladesh and its people.

He criticised the government for maintaining secrecy about the agreements to be signed during the visit.

Fakhrul said they want that Bangladesh receives legitimate share of water of the common rivers including the Teesta, stopping killing of Bangladesh citizens by Indian BSF, reducing trade imbalance and demarcation of maritime boundary.

Earlier, a milad mahfil was held at the BNP central office seeking blessings for early recovery of the party’s senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

The milad was organised to mark the 3rd year of Tarique’s release from prison.
